Den kanadensiska författaren och journalisten Naomi Klein medverkar i dag i en längre intervju med tidningen The Guardian, detta med anledning av hennes alldeles nya ungdomsbok How to Change Everything: The Young Human’s Guide to Protecting the Planet and Each Other.
I intervjun gör Naomi Klein klart vad som faktiskt står på spel för dagens ungdomar, nämligen deras framtid:
“This is what people are fighting for – their right to a future.”
En person som uppmärksammas i boken är inte oväntat svenska klimataktivisten Greta Thunberg, i dag 18 år. Om hennes säger Klein:
“I look to her as the North Star in so many ways, because she is just so unimpressed with talk. Now that Trump is out of office, there’s lots of politicians saying the right thing. I just think of Greta and ‘enough with the blah blah blah’, as she said in Davos. OK, show me the carbon. Or the lack of it.”
Naomi Klein säger också i intervjun med The Guardian att det finns i alla fall en bra sak som kan följa av den pågående Coronapandemin:
“The big difference post-Covid is we now know what it means to treat an emergency like an emergency. We’ve all seen our governments do it. They can change things dramatically overnight. And that’s not something those of us born after the second world war had experienced. Our expectations and our ability to differentiate between just talk and actual change is heightened. And the pressure is going to be even greater on political leaders.”
How to Change Everything släpptes den 23 februari på engelska och boken kommer översättas till över 15 språk, bland annat svenska, enligt information på Naomi Kleins hemsida.
